Women’s Empowerment: Q’ero Textiles

Weaving Studio (Taller de Textiles y Tejidos)

The transition from an agrarian pastoral lifestyle to a money economy undermines traditional values. For women to restore equitable rights and empowerment they need to earn their own income in a dignified way. We support the efforts of Q’ero women to earn money from their weavings by providing studio space and retail outlet. A long goal is to develop wholesale export sources for the distribution of Q’ero textiles.

In addition, Q’ero women shamans work with female travelers who participate in our tours to provide healing sessions and group ceremonies. They are paid fairly for their services and work independently from male Q’ero ceremonialists.
